I have some super exciting news to share! Myself and Carly from Mom Of Two Little Girls have decided to team up to bring our audiences some tips, advice and stories about travelling with kids, as real moms – introducing #RealMomsWhoTravel
We have both travelled extensively as moms, with our kids within South Africa, regionally in Southern Africa, and internationally. We will be collaborating on informative posts, stories, tips, tricks, hacks and advice that can help other moms who travel with their kids.
To kick things off, we thought it would be fun to interview each other as a way of introducing our new mommy-in-travel to each other’s audiences. Here goes a bit of fun:
Tell us a bit about you (background, family dynamic, current location)
I’m a mom of two little girls aged 7 and 5. I was born and raised in Zimbabwe, then moved to the UK for 10 years. After we got married my South African husband and I went back to Zim, then on to SA, and we have now been back in the UK for a little over a month.
Which was the last big trip you took?
Our relocation flight back to the UK. We flew from Johannesburg to Abu Dhabi, then on to Manchester, UK.
Which is you preferred mode of travel when taking a family holiday?
Road Trips – I love driving to new places and staring out the window watching the world go by. It’s usually more relaxed and I prefer it when we just drive with a rough idea of our destination in mind. Not pre-booking, no rush, just exploring.
What is your biggest tip for making your trip a success as a parent?
Make sure the kids are happy and give yourself plenty of time. Kids don’t react well to ‘hurry up and wait’, or a stressed-out mommy.
What is the hardest thing about travelling as a family?
The paperwork. Making sure everyone’s visas, passports, and other necessary paperwork for wherever it is you’re planning to go, are up to date can be a full-time job sometimes.
If you could go anywhere in the world, as a family, where would you go?
Everywhere! But right now, I would love to do a road trip through the southern states of America. A long, unplanned, trip with as much time as we need, and funds obviously!
What would be your ideal long weekend away?
For now, the Scottish Highlands. They are just so amazingly beautiful. We last went there about 12 years ago, and I would love to go back with my kids.
