The first time I met Catherine, I was immediately drawn to her soft and caring nature. As a single mother, she amazes me with her drive and lets nothing stand in her way. Well done, Catherine!
Tell me a little bit more about yourself
First and foremost, I am a single mother to a gorgeous, soft-natured, amazing 4-year-old boy. Motherhood met me young but definitely took centre stage into shaping me into the person I am today. Currently I am an online student at the South African Collage of Applied Psychology (SACAP). I strive to become a Play Therapist in the future applying a holistic approach in guiding and supporting the whole child through Play Therapy techniques, Yoga and meditation.
On top of that, I am the Yoga teacher at Kidz Yoga, a part-time Au Pair and more recently, a Blogger.
My cup is full, but it overflows with so much love, gratitude and passion!
Where did your business idea come from?
My sister-in-law, Zelda Hutton, completed her Yoga modules a few years ago in hopes of perusing this business idea but the timing was never right.
Then something miraculous happened last year and everything just fell into place! I have completed my Yoga modules and since then we have been growing from strength to strength.
The most influential reason why we started Kidz Yoga is due to vast amount of stress and pressure children face on a daily basis- mentally, emotionally and physically. Our primary goal to equip children with the necessary tools to build their self-confidence, gain tools for emotional regulation and become self-empowered.
If we can change only one child’s life, then we have done our job! As Ghandi said, “In a gentle way, you can shake the world.” And that’s what we plan on doing!
How do you juggle mom life and your business?
I thrive on routine and organisation! In saying that, every day is different and some days more work gets done than others, but I like to set small, realistic goals on a daily basis and ensure I take the time to get them done. (There is little that is more empowering than ticking off tasks you have completed on your ‘to-do’ list).
The trick is also to know how much you can handle at once and pat yourself on the back every now and again- even the days when you get nothing done!
What do you do to relax?
I am a bookworm at heart so reading serves my comfort and safe place in times of stress and overwhelming moments.
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Without a doubt, I would have to say Bali. The culture, locals, food and attraction sights tug at my heart strings!
What is your best mom moment?
Oh, there are just so many to choose from! Can I choose “just being a mom?”
But on a serious note, not much comes close to the happy “mammmma!!” scream and little body running towards me when I fetch Jean from school after a long day at work. That moment is enough to turn any negative space right around and fill you up with undefinable amounts of love and appreciation for the small things in life!
