Imagine this: it's a beautiful sunny and warm day and the French doors are open on the patio leading onto green grass with Table Mountain in the distance.
Welcome to Longridge Wine Estate.
I know this is not your typical wine estate that you would come to if you have a 2 year old and a baby...but if you happened to be there with your little ones, I can guarantee that they would be welcome. Firstly, without me even asking, they brought a high chair (10 points). Then, they brought the kids menu, which also doubled up as a coloring page (100 points). But then, they brought the food (50 000 points).
Of course I tried the "fish and chips" and it was really tasty; little finger lickin' good! (My food was just as yummy too)
It is not hard to see why Longridge is one of the leading wine estates in the Stellenbosch area. Their wine is world class; and my personal favorite (plus many, many others) is "The Emily". If you haven't tried it yet, here is a brief description of it:
Predominantly unwooded Chardonnay, blended with a small amount of lightly wooded Pinot Noir from the Elgin. Both varieties were whole bunched pressed and allowed native yeast fermentation. Pinot Noir is transferred to aged wooden barrels, while the Chardonnay stayed in tanks in order to mature on the lees before being blended.
But the rest of their wines are also top notch, with the Pinotage being a very close second for me.
So mom is happy now because she has her wine....But what about the kids? I mean, they can't color forever. Do not fear mamma bear. Let them explore the gardens where herbs and veggies have been planted. Or, take your children on a short walking trail to discover the different kinds of grapes and to visit the hardworking cows and ducks.
Or just let them run and play outside. Because that's what they do best
